The company offered no rationale, but simply served the union\nnotice and proceeded with the lockout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"603\" src=\"https:\/\/iamaw11.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/LL11_strikepic_01_1000px.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23\" srcset=\"https:\/\/iamaw11.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/LL11_strikepic_01_1000px.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/iamaw11.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/LL11_strikepic_01_1000px-300x181.jpg 300w, https:\/\/iamaw11.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/LL11_strikepic_01_1000px-768x463.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nunion and the company have been in bargaining since early January 2019, with\nabout 25 full days of negotiations. Avcorp\u2019s first offer was rejected by the\nworker by a margin of 100% &#8211; a rarity these days. They then conducted a strike\nvote, with the employees voting 100% in favour of a strike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;parties\nwent to three days of mediation,&nbsp;but&nbsp;there was no resolution, which\nprompted the company to&nbsp;apply for&nbsp;a Government-Supervised Final Offer\nVote. The union is not asking for substantive changes in the\ncontracting-out language, but simply to account for the two newer facilities.\nMembers want to be assured that their jobs are protected,&nbsp;when layoffs\noccur to&nbsp;have recall rights which provide them with some dignity. The IAM\nis committed to keeping good aerospace jobs in Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In\nmany cases, when IAM members at Avcorp are laid-off, their recall rights expire\nand they must start again as new employees, losing all wage levels and accrued\nbenefits. The last recall forced workers to take a pay cut of almost $4 per\nhour. A layoff period can last anywhere from two to four years. Similar work of\nthis high-skilled trade is unavailable in the Delta area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Local\nLodge 11 represents some 450 men and women who work&nbsp;in the aerospace\ntrades at Avcorp Industries in Delta, British Columbia.
